"Merry Christmas!" A poem by me

"Merry Christmas!"

a little poem by me

There’s something about the candles
And the presents and the trees.
There’s something about the tinsel
And the mistletoe in the eaves.

And there’s something about the snow and the stars,
And the angels, and the mangers scenes.
There’s something about that makes
Christmas have meaning.

T’was the night before Christmas
And all through the house
I pondered as I looked
At the lights shining about

On the beautiful Christmas tree;
Reflecting in sparkles off the presents.
My gifts both to and from me;
Wrapped in joyful paper, so pleasant.

The Christmas cards were set
On the mantle with care;
Sweet notes from dear loved ones
That they chose to share.

And my cat and dog were nestled
All nestled all snug in their beds
With thoughts of biscuits and cat food
Dancing ‘round in their heads.

And my daddy was fast asleep,
Smiling in his dreams.
But I was wide awake
Pondering many meanings…

Of Christmas.

Peculiar thoughts and glorious wonders
Were surrounding my mind.
Joyful songs and various utters
Were filling my soul with rhymes.

But above these thoughts a single token
Suddenly spoke out to me:

“Christmas isn’t about the presents…
It’s not about the tree.”

“It’s not the cookies, or the snow
Or Santa or stockings.
It’s not about the chimneys,
Or the cards or carols or the frolicking.”

“It isn’t even about the stars
Or the angels or Joseph;
Not even Marry.”

“It’s about a small little new born babe
Named Jesus. The Son of God.
Who came to die and to save.”

“To save the world; he came.
To save you, and to save me.
To be hung up on a cross,
Nailed to that splintery tree”

“That’s what Christmas is all about.”

And as I slowly climbed into bed
While these word slowly faded from my jumbled head
Another realization dawned on my mind,
One that I think everyone should think and find:

Christmas is all about Jesus.

Sometimes we get wrapped up in our belongings
And forget to whom they really belong.
Sometimes we get surrounded by out troubles
And forget to whom we can cast them upon.

And sometimes we get hardened by our failures,
Our doubts, our dreads, our fears and our past.
But really we can cast them at Jesus.
He’ll take our sorrow: he’ll never laugh.

And he’ll never say that we fail beyond forgiveness,
And he’ll never say we failed beyond mercy,
And he’ll never say that he won’t love us,
Rather he’ll say, “I love you, more than you can understand.”

So this Christmas when we wake up in the morning,
Let us not forget the true meaning of this holiday.
Let us not forget the love that God shined on us
When he gave his Son, his only Son, away.

And instead of uttering “Happy Holidays!”
Let’s instead keep the meaning of Christmas alive
By remembering the whole reason of Christmas;
“Christ”, let’s keep it in our lives and say

“Merry Christmas!”

Love,
Becca =) <3
