Forever
a poem by me

Why the long face?
Why the sad eyes?
Why do you look as if
you're about to cry.

These tears that cascade
down your beautiful cheeks
they tell of a sorrow
that runs much too deep.

A despair you are holding
inside of your chest
that you refuse to let out;
denying to take that breath.

That will cleanse your soul
of hardship and pain.
Why do you reject it?
Dismiss it in vain?

Do not cry, my little one
do not cry, my small child
let me hold you in my arms
let me share my bountiful smile.

Let me love you for eternity
and bless your toilsome life.
Give me all your failures,
give me all your strife.

How could you ever comprehend
my love for you; so wide.
How could you ever understand
my love for you; please don't hide.

Please don't run away from me
please don't try to resist.
I promise I will protect you,
never leave you; never raise a fist

in anger or malice
or hatred or slander
don't you understand?
I will love you forever!

I am your life.
I am your strength.
I am your strong tower
even when you're weak.

In your lowest highs
and your smallest peaks.
Your toughest hills
and when you're feeling meek

and sad, and forlorn,
desperate and dreary.
When you are lonesome
and when you are weary.

When you feel like a man
and when you feel like a child
I can make your face and life
light up for miles.

Please don't resist me, my love.
Please try to understand
that all I want to do
is take you in my hands

And hold you in my arms.
For you are beautiful in my eyes.
I love you more than life itself.
Cry on my shoulder: just cry.

And I promise that no matter what
goes wrong I will never leave you.
